We all begin life as curious young souls, eager to explore the world with our senses. As children, our imaginations are boundless; we dream of becoming astronauts, dinosaurs, or the fastest person alive. We constantly affirm, "I am, I can, I will," with unwavering confidence. But somewhere along the way, those affirmations start to fade. We move from "I am, I can, I will" to "maybe, might, I hope, I wish," or even "I can't." External voices start to drown out our inner belief, telling us, "No, you can't," "You are not." We begin to fear questions like "What do you want to do with your life?" or "Who are you?" Why does this happen?
Adulthood brings responsibilities that overshadow our youthful dreams. We face pressures we didn’t have before—pressure to succeed, to fulfil family expectations, and to meet societal standards. These pressures can make us afraid of chasing our early dreams, thinking, “If I fail, I’ll look foolish,” “Only lucky people can do that,” “I’m not as good as they are.” The expectations from society, family, and even ourselves can create a heavy burden, pushing us further away from our true desires. We start to conform to what we believe is expected of us, rather than pursuing what truly makes us happy. This shift in focus from internal desires to external validation can erode our self-confidence and hinder our progress.
But what if I told you that the biggest thing holding you back is YOU? The real obstacle is not others' opinions or imposed limits but our own lack of belief. When we stop believing, we start to accept limitations and dismiss what truly ignites our passion—the aspirations that once filled us with conviction. It’s easy to blame external factors for our lack of progress, but true change begins when we look within and recognise our own power. The first step is acknowledging that our thoughts and words have immense power over our reality. By changing our internal dialogue, we can transform our lives in ways we never imagined possible.
Our daily language plays a crucial role in our pursuits. The shift from "I am, I can, I will" to "maybe, might, I hope, I wish, I can't" marks the end of our endeavour to become who we dream of being. Our subconscious mind, a powerful yet undervalued tool, hears everything we say. It doesn't differentiate between positive and negative; it simply accepts what it hears. Therefore, it's vital to feed our subconscious with positive affirmations. When we use doubtful or negative phrases, our subconscious locks in that doubt, leaving no room for potential. The good news is, we can change this habit by being mindful of our language.
It took me almost 30 years to adapt to mindful language. I too was a victim of negative self-talk, but I became a victor. I learned to be conscious of what I say, understanding its impact on my mental and physical health. Previously, when asked, “How are you today?” I would reply, “Tired but okay,” and unsurprisingly, I always felt tired. My subconscious heard me, affecting my energy and drive. Now, I respond with “I’m always good,” and this simple change gives me a burst of energy and happiness every time.
I can personally attest to the power of mindful language. It has transformed not just how I feel physically but also fuels my daily belief in everything I do. From leaving a job I hated for 12 years to moving halfway across the world and helping countless individuals through my Life Coaching Business, mindful language has been key. Instead of driving machines or staying in the Police Force, I chose to help individuals, knowing that Life Coaching is where I can make the greatest impact. I ignored the “it's a flooded industry” sentiment and embraced "I am, I can, I will!" My journey wasn’t easy, but every step was worth it because it brought me closer to my true calling.
The transformation in my life is a testament to the power of believing in oneself and the impact of positive language. Each time I faced a challenge, I reminded myself of my affirmations, and they became my guiding light. My experience in the Police Force and my background in coaching have equipped me with unique insights and skills that I now use to empower others. I’ve seen firsthand how changing one’s mindset can lead to incredible personal growth and fulfilment.
Next time you catch yourself thinking “maybe,” telling someone “I might,” or “potentially I'd like to,” STOP. BREATHE and say “I am,” “I can,” and “I will.” No one sets your limits but you, so start your day, set your goals, and think of your dreams with positive, affirming belief. You are capable of amazing things, and Lost in Living Life Coaching is here to help you every step of the way. Remember, the language you use shapes your reality, so choose words that empower and uplift you.
Reflect on your dreams and aspirations. What did you want to be when you were a child? What passions have you put aside because of fear or doubt? It’s never too late to reignite those dreams. Begin by changing the way you speak to yourself. Replace self-doubt with self-belief. Instead of saying, “I hope I can,” say, “I know I can.” These small changes in language can have a profound impact on your mindset and your life.
Our subconscious mind is incredibly powerful. It believes everything we tell it, so let’s feed it with positivity and confidence. When we say “I am,” we affirm our identity. When we say “I can,” we affirm our capability. When we say “I will,” we affirm our determination. Together, these affirmations create a strong foundation for achieving our goals.
Life is full of challenges, but how we face them determines our success. With a positive mindset and affirming language, we can overcome obstacles and achieve our dreams. Every day is an opportunity to reaffirm our belief in ourselves and take steps toward our goals. Surround yourself with positivity, practice mindfulness, and stay focused on your affirmations.
